Funeral services for Fred Norten Cope, of Alex, OK will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at the Main Street Church of Christ in Alex.

Fred Norten Cope was born Aug. 20, 1921 in Viola, Tenn. to Magness and Josie (Zwingle) Cope. He passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 93.

Mr. Cope came to Grady County as a little boy. He married Opal Cleo Hill on March 25, 1942. In September of 1942, he entered into the military and served in World War II with the United States Army and was discharged January of 1946. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He farmed in the Alex area. He later worked as a tractor mechanic for Melton's Tractor and continued to farm and ranch until his health wouldn't allow him.

He is a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Alex.

Mr. Cope is preceded in death by his wife Opal on October 14, 2008; his parents; a brother, Billy Cope; a sister, Nadell Pearson; and a granddaughter, Larisa Jean Chitwood.

Mr. Cope is survived by his two daughters: Elanna Chitwood and Alfreda Matthews and her husband, Jim; four grandchildren: Kelle Gibson, Larry Matthews, Chris Matthews and Phillip Chitwood and 12 Great grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Alex Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha.
